The terms and conditions set forth in this manuscript determine use of the website and all relevant laws. Only SEP Educational Consulting, Inc. may revise or update these terms.

This statement relates to the following website: www.smarterprep.com. This website is owned and operated by SEP Education Consulting, Inc. (“SEP,” We,” “Us”). A for-profit organization, SEP’s mission is to help students prepare for various standardized examinations. We understand the necessity of protecting the privacy rights of those who use our website. In the following, therefore, we outline by what means and for what reason/purpose we collect user information.

Personal Information

While users can browse most of our website’s content without creating an account, our services require that they register and create an account.
For students: From continuing students, we request the following personal information: first, middle, and last name, zip code, gender, date of birth, expected high school graduation date, email address, username, and password.

Children Under 13

From children under the age of 13, we do not collect personally identifiable information. If notified that a child under the age of 13 has provided this information, we will deactivate this person’s account as soon as possible.

Educators

For those who register as educators, we collect the following personal information: first, middle, and last name, gender, job, title, school, username, password, email address, and birth date.

Use of Information and Disclosure to Third Parties

•    Consistent with its mission, SEP shares user information to facilitate its services, which include: sharing information solely in order to administer testing services; reporting student scores to relevant sources, such as high schools, colleges, and departments of education; and sharing pertinent information with relevant research partners (if/when applicable).
•    Inviting users to participate in surveys and/or focus groups
•    Verifying user identity for customer service calls.
•    Customizing and/or personalizing website to improve personal experience of users, which include: fulfilling purchase requests or other website-related transactions, such as sharing pertinent personally identifiable information with SEP vendor(s).
•    We rely on external companies in order to process credit cards and ship goods. The companies involved, however, do not retain, use, share, or store personally identifiable information for purposes other than to process the transaction.
•    We also rely on external companies in order to transmit email communications to our users. This company retains and stores personal information in order to process electronic communications. But they do not share, sell, or rent this information. The information we share with this external company includes: first, middle, and last name, address, date of birth, telephone number, and email address.
•    We may also share personally identifiable information with contractors who help with various technical aspects of maintaining and operating the website. These contractors follow SEP’s confidentiality and privacy conditions.
•    We also provide some user data, without identifiable information, for research purposes as well as to for product and service development.
•    In compliance with the law and national security, SEP may need to disclose personal data upon request.
•    If necessary (for example, in compliance with a subpoena), we might disclose personal information to protect our rights or user safety or that of others.


Access to Your Information

Users may request information regarding whether SEP holds or processes any of its users’ personal information. For inquiries, please contact SEP at inquiry@smarterprep.com.
Users can request to change or delete their personal information. We will keep user information until the account in question has been deactivated or to provide further services, comply with legal responsibilities, resolve disputes, and ensure terms of agreement are met.
Communications from the SEP and Opt-In Choices

SEP communicates with users either via system-generated emails or commercial
•    System-generated emails respond directly to users site-related actions, such as online store purchases or username/password reminders.
•    Commercial emails inform users about SEP products, services, newsletters, alerts, or surveys. At users’ discretion, commercial email settings (including opt-out or unsubscribe settings) can be changed at any time.

Tracking Technologies and Cookies

As with other websites, SEP gathers some information automatically, which might include IP addresses, ISP, browsers, viewed site files, exit pages, operating systems, date stamps, and click stream data. SEP may use this information to analyze aggregate trends and administer the site.
SEP also uses cookies to retain user settings, which, in turn, facilitates future use of the SEP website. SEP may make use of user preferences to update and change website layout. As individual browsers, users can opt to switch off cookie settings, which may limit use of some website features.

International Users and Transfers of Data and Information

SEP and its website operate in South Korea (Republic of Korea). As a result, users’ information is transferred from their location to South Korea, which does not guarantee a comparable level of protection for identifiable information as users’ countries. This information may become available to the South Korean government or its agencies under lawful orders. By providing information to SEP, users agree to a cross-border transfer of this information to South Korea. If users decide to revoke consent to this cross-border transfer of data, SEP may stop processing user information.

Changes to Our Policy

If SEP changes any part of its privacy policy, those changes will be posted to this page. These changes will apply only to information, which has been collected after the appropriate date.
